Salmon QuestionsPlease browse the following list of frequently asked questions before calling. If you do not find the answer you need, you may use the contact information provided at the end of the list. Do you currently have any salmon available? Because we are a commercial fishing family, not a large retailer, our inventory is seasonally limited. Occasionally, we do have some of our catch processed for off-season sales. Please check our Online Fish Market page for current availability and join our mailing list to receive our updates. How do I place a pre-order to reserve my share of next season’s catch? Please use our Pre Order Form. You may submit your reservation by email (include the completed form as an attachment) or send it to Robert L. Correia at P.O. Box 456 Clam Gulch, Alaska 99568. Where are you located? We are life-long Alaskans and make our home in Clam Gulch, on the eastern shore of Cook Inlet. What species of salmon do you catch? There are five species of Wild Salmon in Alaska. Our catch consists mainly of Sockeye Salmon, also known as Red Salmon. We do catch a few Chinook (King Salmon), as well as some Coho (Silver Salmon) and Pink Salmon. On rare occasions, we find a Chum Salmon (Keta) in our nets. Each species is distinctly unique in appearance, texture, and flavor. What are the benefits and/or risks of eating Wild Alaskan Salmon? Please visit our Healthy Salmon page for a brief discussion on the health implications of including seafood in your diet. Is your catch coming from a sustainable source? Yes! The biologists and legislators who regulate Alaska’s fisheries work zealously to ensure that future generations will enjoy the bounty of “The Great Land.” Commercial fishermen in Alaska are often at the forefront of efforts to preserve both the natural habitat and lifecycle integrity of wild salmon. In fact, the conservation organization, Trout Unlimited, encourages consumers to eat Wild Alaskan Salmon as a means of promoting the viability of these natural stocks. I have placed a pre-order. When will I receive my shipment? In season. We will start fishing late in June and begin shipping the first week of July. Please be sure to include a reliable email address on your order form so we can inform you of your “Ship Date.” Your fillets should arrive the following day via FedEx. If no one is available to take delivery, the carrier will leave your package at the door. Your canned salmon will be delivered by the United States Post Office in 2-3 days. What type of packaging do you use? Fillets are packed individually in vacuum sealed bags and sent in foam insulated corrugated cardboard boxes specifically designed for the shipment of frozen seafood. Canned salmon will arrive at your home in a USPS flat-rate box, filled with 24 7-ounce cans. Do you offer canned salmon? Yes! We have received many inquiries about a shelf-stable alternative to frozen fillets, and have recently expanded our enterprise into this area. Our “gourmet” cans feature boneless / skinless salmon. Do you offer smoked salmon? Yes! You will find our cans of smoked salmon to be a handy inspiration for indulgent appetizers or chowder. For a simple method of smoking salmon at home, we use and recommend the Little Chief smoker. Our fillets are the perfect start to your own smoked salmon creations! After reviewing this list, I still have an unanswered question. How do I contact you? You may call our home at 1-907-262-4409. During the salmon fishing season, we are likely to be out to sea (therefore difficult to contact). Please leave a message. |
